About Southend Airport
Southend Airport, otherwise known as SEN in airport code, is located in Rochford, Essex, England. This particular airport has long been in existence, gaining its very first establishment as a Royal Air Force (RAF) airfield during WW1.
As stated above, Southend Airport had its beginnings as a RAF airfield during the First World War. On 18th of September, 1935, the location was opened as a municipal airport by Sir Philip Sassoon. For a short amount of time in 1939, the RAF took control of the airspace again to be utilized as a satellite base. In 1946, after the war had ended, the airport once again became municipal.
