Virgin Atlantic is a relatively new airline – that is, compared with the likes of Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and American Airlines. But it is an airline that draws attention when talking about aviation jobs, especially those available at London . This post tells you all you need to know about this British airline as well as the available Virgin Atlantic Airlines jobs.

What’s to know about Virgin Atlantic?

This airline, which operates under the trading name Virgin Atlantic Airways Limited, was founded in 1984. Its co-founders Randolph Fields, an American lawyer, and Alan Hellary, an ex-Laker Airways chief pilot, were initially interested in setting up an airline that will operate flights between London and the Falkland Islands, but the idea later had to be shelved due to the short runway at Port Stanley Airport. The airline was initially named British Atlantic Airways before having its name changed to Virgin Atlantic Airways. Its first flight took place in June 1984 from Gatwick Airport to Newark Liberty International Airport.

Headquartered in Crawley, West Sussex, England, Virgin Atlantic obtained permit in 1991 to operate Heathrow, after the abolition of the London Air Traffic Distribution Rules that had governed traffic distribution between Gatwick and Heathrow since 1978 for reasons bordering on profitability. It has its main bases at Heathrow and Gatwick, flying passengers to several international destinations. With a total of 5.4 million passengers handled in 2015, the airline was the seventh-largest in the United Kingdom, making Virgin Atlantic Airlines jobs interesting choices for an aviation career.

Virgin Atlantic is managed, along with Virgin Holidays, by holding company Virgin Atlantic Limited, 51 percent of which is owned by the Virgin Group and the remainder by Delta Air Lines. The British airline operates out of Terminal 3 at London . It has a UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Type A Operating License which empowers it to fly passengers, cargo and postal mail on planes with 20 or more seats.

You must be able to pass rigorous security checks prior to gaining employment as well.

Most employees who work within call centres are promoted from within the company. This means once it’s time to rearrange staff within the company, they will not go looking elsewhere for someone who can do the job – they will look for someone already employed who is capable of taking on bigger and more important tasks, and then delegate the new position to them. It’s a thrill to know that you have the ability move up in your company and take on bigger responsibilities for the good of the company.

Most people who are employed at an airport call centre have nothing but good things to say about their positions, and wouldn’t trade them for the world. Although some days can be a challenge – around Holiday time or natural disasters, for instance – for the most part, the job is exciting and rewarding and overall fun. During training, you will learn about the dress code of the company as each company is different, learn the day to day expectations, learn about the airline, learn the ins and outs of the airline itself and about special sales and how to advertise and market them to potential customers, learn about interpersonal communication, and so on.

You will gain everything you will need to know about fulfilling your day to day obligations. Naturally, someone who is just beginning their career within a call centre cannot expect to receive the same salary or wage as someone with years of seniority and experience, nor would someone with much skill be expected to take less than what is respectable for their experience and time with the company. As with most jobs, promotions happen from within in call centres, and pay does increase over the course of time.

You should express any concerns in which you may have regarding your call centre salary with your Superior or Manager, or even before accepting the position with the career specialist who interviews you for the position. The above are just some of the daily duties in air stewardess jobs. Cabin crew members can sometimes work long hours. The cabin crew job description entails more, such as security measures, facilitating these security measures, and attending meetings, as well as assisting the pilot and co-pilot with relaying messages to the passengers on board via the PA system.

Becoming an air stewardess isn’t for everyone. Perhaps you have a family and couldn’t picture yourself traveling so far from them. In this instance, becoming a cabin crew member probably isn’t best for you. If you are afraid of flying, afraid of heights, Claustrophobic, or have social anxiety disorder, this job may not be appropriate for you.

To become an air stewardess, you do not need to obtain a special college degree. You only need to be healthy and have a physical examination by a doctor hired by the airline, and proven to be in good health. You also need only have a High School Diploma or GED or equivalent. Read more about cabin crew requirements on our site site, HeathrowCareers.co.uk.

If you have a love of flying, travel, learning, and adventure, becoming a member of the cabin crew with any designated airline you choose is most likely a good fit for your personality type.

Cabin Crew Training

There is a formal cabin crew training provided by each and every airline in which you decide to work for. Professional cabin crew training varies from airline to airline, and also varies in length and depth. Most programs typically last anywhere from four to six weeks in length, and the main focus of the training sessions are to provide cabin crew training for safety and emergency situations.

In training, you will learn about things such as:

• Personal appearance and grooming standards
• Cultural differences and awareness
• Food prep and how to properly serve the food
• Interpersonal communication pertaining to customer care
• Passenger care
Much more is also covered during the training sessions as well, however every airline is different.

There is normally a probationary period of about 3-4 months after training to ensure the employment relationship is in fact going to work out. If a trainee passes through the probationary period and everything has gone according to plan, they are normally invited to remain a permanent member of the crew and are offered full time permanent employment.

The training period can seem a bit overwhelming sometimes and tedious as you learn some of the same things numerous times, however this is for the good of everyone and to ensure you have learned all you will need to know to properly do your job.

Sometimes in your career, situations will arise in which you may not have learned anything pertaining to what to do in that instance. Usually you can refer back to something you have learned in training and use that as a reference point. For everything else, you could always ask senior staff and crew members.

Getting hired as cabin crew isn’t an easy task, get started on your career with Online Cabin Crew Training co-developed with British Airways.

Cabin Crew Salary

When first starting out in a position you are new to, you can’t always expect to be paid the top cabin crew salary or to receive bonuses or benefits. You can, over time, develop skill and seniority in your position, thus raising the bar for the standards you set for yourself.

Your initial cabin crew salary per annum in the UK as a cabin crew member can be expected to be approximately £12,000 and with added bonus expenditures and payments, you could see approximately £14,500. Experienced members of the cabin crew usually anticipate a cabin crew salary of about £15,000 – 18,000 per annum.

Aside from the salary you are paid, many airlines also compensate you for overnight stays in hotels and on whether or not you can speak more than one language. So, in many instances, you are able to make more than the base pay stated here.

Starting out you might not make much, but once you stick with the airline and show your dedication and loyalty to that airline, you are showing the airline that you are worth better pay, and will therefore be compensated justly.

Aside from the air stewardess salary, there is an incentive cabin crew members receive which is said by some to be like receiving a hidden paycheck, so to speak. Cabin crew members along with other airline employees are eligible for free travel and huge travel discounts on flights and vacations. This offer also extends to the cabin or crew member’s spouse, children, extended family and friends. This is one of the greatest perks about being an airline employee.

Cabin Crew Jobs

Cabin crew jobs (also called air hostess jobs) are in high demand and so they are sometimes difficult to obtain. However, persistence is key and so is having a stellar resume on file with all of the airlines you are interested in working with. Show persistence and always keep your wits about you, as well as a great attitude. You will eventually attain the position you desire if you are adamant about pushing for the position you desire.

In this article you will find all you need to know about the latest pilot jobs you will find on each airport. From background information to salary examples, it’s all there. And don’t forget to visit our job board Airport Jobs for the latest Pilot Jobs UK.

Airline Pilot Jobs

Airline pilot jobs are easier to obtain than commercial pilot jobs once you have completed the appropriate training. You will be flying smaller aircrafts and will do more regional flights. There are things one must do before obtaining a position in an airline pilot Job.

To become licensed as an airline pilot, one must attend a Civil Aviation Authority governed training facility, and complete all training and flight hours. The amount of flight hours varies per training facility, but is typically no less than 1,000 at any facility in the UK. Most airlines like to see a much higher number than that, however, before offering employment or extending employment to those who are seeking it.

Airline pilots tend to have various roles however one general role, which is to fly planes which are loaded with passengers, a crew, and a co-pilot. Your position will vary based on your credentials. Airline pilots typically start out at a ranking of First Officer, and you will fly alongside a Captain. Normally, you will be put to use on short haul flights until you gain enough flight experience to take on bigger projects and jobs, such as flying cross country and across the world.

In order for your license of ATPL or Airline Transport Pilot License to become unfrozen, or allow you to fly without any holds barred, you will need to complete 1,500 of flight hours and 500 of these hours need to be completed in a plane with more than one crew to operate the plane. Once this happens, you will then be able to move up the ranks to Captain over time.

As a pilot, you will need to pass specific examinations every 6 months to ensure you are able to keep your pilot’s license, and therefore it’s important to keep up on that so as not to lose your pilot’s license. If it is lost, it can be quite difficult and costly to get back.

Those with airline pilot jobs who are just starting out can typically expect to earn approximately £21,000-24,000. More experienced pilots can typically expect to earn anywhere from £36-48,000. Captain salaries can be expected to be anywhere from £57-97,000 per year.

Commercial Pilot Jobs

Much like helicopter pilot jobs, airline pilot jobs require quite a bit of extensive training and obtaining a special license before you are able to be employed as an airline pilot. Please read on if you would like to obtain more information regarding how to get a commercial pilot job.

In the United Kingdom, airline pilot jobs can be difficult to obtain unless you have the proper credentials and training. There are various types of pilot’s licenses. A mere pilot’s License won’t necessarily work at a commercial airline. You will need a commercial pilot’s license (CPL) ((A)) and willing and able to make the sacrifice of time it takes to obtain this license.

Commercial pilots licenses require many hours’ worth of training, and even more hours’ worth of flying experience, known as flight hours.

There are entry requirements in order to become a commercial pilot. They are as follows:

• Private Pilot’s License (PPL )
• 150 hours’ worth of flight time
• 100 hours’ worth of Pilot in Command experience
• You must pass all 14 ATPL exams
• You must have a Class 1 medical clearance
• You must have 300 nighttime hours flown cross country
• Must have a MEP rating that is current

Aside from the above, there may be other qualifications you must meet before becoming a commercial airline pilot. There are many training facilities available where you are able to gain you CPL, as long as they are governed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Obtaining employment once you have received your CPL is fairly easy. Airlines are consistently looking for qualified, experienced pilots so by going through the listing on our job board. With submitting a copy of your CV (and keeping it up to date and current with all applicable hours and licenses), you will likely find a position within your local airport. Even if you start out part time, it’s something – and sticking with your position for as long as possible will earn you points and experience, which in turn will earn you more hours and more money.

Commercial pilot salary can be expected to be £24-28,000 per year for entry level pilots, and the most experienced commercial airline pilots can be expected to net over £97-140,000 per year.

Helicopter Pilot Jobs

Helicopter pilot jobs are just one of the many pilot jobs located within the various airlines situated within an airport. To find out more about how to become a helicopter pilot for an airport and what exactly a helicopter pilot job entails, please read on.

Helicopter pilots receive rigorous training at flight school before obtaining any sort of pilot’s license. As a general rule, helicopter pilots require much more training and education than do airplane pilots due to the nature of the flight itself being much more difficult. Many people opt to become airline pilots, but not many dare become helicopter pilots due to the fact that it’s a much riskier flight. Also, it takes a lot of skill to properly operate a helicopter.

Flight training consists of attending an accredited facility and receiving appropriate flight training. The flight school needs to be governed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the licensure you will be training for will be the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) Private Pilot’s License. If you want to become a Commercial Pilot, you will need to obtain a Commercial Pilot’s License CPL((H)) for Helicopters. This is more than likely the licensure you will need to obtain of the two in order to work at an Airport.

There are various training hours involved, and you will need to obtain many hours’ worth of flight experience before you become licensed –over 500 hours, to be exact – and from there, you will need to complete various bouts of paperwork and be given clearance to work as a commercial helicopter pilot.

Helicopter pilots require rigorous training for good reason, and you should also be in optimal health, have the ability to pass a vision screen, and be over the age of 18 years of age. Aside from that, you should also have a High School Diploma, and have a good sense of direction, possess common sense, and able to follow direction properly.

Helicopter pilots will complete myriad tasks while working with an airport. They may need to fly to various locations and pick up supplies, drop off supplies, or work with local authorities. On occasion, commercial helicopter pilots may be employed to fly their helicopter as an air ambulance to transport someone who is critically injured, or transport important military officials. The Royal Air Force (RAF) may employ these helicopter pilots to carry out official business.

There are many other facets in which commercial helicopter pilots may be of use at an airline, however; those are just a few examples.

A helicopter pilot salary can vary based on location, job duties, and qualifications. Median average salary per annum is £30-60,000. More experienced airline helicopter pilots can earn up to £80,000 per year.

Pilot Salary

The pilot salary range is very broad, with an entry salary beginning at £21,000 a year up to £140,000 per year for an experienced commercial pilot at captain level. The size of the aircraft is counting heavily in determining your salary. Flying large jumbo jets like the Airbus A380 or Boeing 777 will earn you the highest salary, but not all airliners are using them (Emirates is famous for using these large jets) and they require special landing strips (like Heathrow has).

While all three pilot jobs are very well paying, all three of these jobs require much different qualifications and training. There is a lot to keeping up on a pilot’s license of any kind, such as medical clearance, exams, and et cetera. It is also very costly to attend a training facility to become a pilot – roughly £60,000 and that isn’t including the cost of exams.

Though it is quite costly to train to become a pilot, it’s quite worth it in the end as well. Pilot salary is very generous, and they will earn back what they spent on training in no time.

Sometimes, all it takes is persistence. Be sure to attend pilot training now to gain the financial future you would like to attain for your life tomorrow. Do it for yourself; do it for your family. You will be amazed at what you can do if you push yourself to the limit.

Airport Engineering Jobs

Airport engineering jobs within airports in the United Kingdom are an imperative part of the functionality and construction of new terminals, sections, and areas within the airport itself. Engineers are also an integral part of the development and creation of new spaces, areas, and buildings to be constructed throughout any given portion of an airport.

Airport engineers design, research, and oversee any projects involving construction at an airport. They read blueprints for each individual job, test soil for foundation strengths, view reports to make the best business decisions for each job, use a great deal of math to calculate materials and costs, and ensure law and codes are being followed.

When engineers are given an assignment or a project, they develop a plan based on cost, labor, materials needed and other factors before proposing a bid amount.

Airport engineers tend to make a great deal of money due to the intricate nature of their job, their expertise, the degree they need to have, and the time that goes into planning out the biggest through smallest details. Usually, someone in an airport engineer Job will have a civil, structural, or mechanical degree from a four year university.

Engineer salary can range anywhere from between £51,613 and up, depending on their skill and expertise.

In order to find airport engineering jobs within a UK airport, engineers typically have to look for bids at the airports. Normally, airports don’t tend to have an on-call engineer. They usually don’t employ them in-house full or part time. When a portion of the airport needs to be reconstructed or constructed, that is when they will put the availability out for engineers to place bids on the job based upon the work to be done. Most engineers are paid on a case by case project basis.

Aerospace Engineering Jobs

Aerospace engineering jobs employ those who are able to create and develop aircraft and similar technology. Aerospace engineers develop, create, and test various space craft such as fixed wing airplanes, helicopters, missiles and weapons, and flight components. There may be other technology they work on from time to time, such as government projects and new technology not yet employed by any particular entity.

Airports in the United Kingdom require people to work in aerospace engineering jobs to run tests on aircraft, develop new technology, and keep up to speed on technology. Engineers typically work in an office setting, but may also work in airplane hangars. You may also be required to travel to various airport locations throughout the United Kingdom to participate in meetings and various tests and development on aircraft.

Normally, an aerospace engineer can look for work directly with an airport of their choosing by contacting them directly on the phone, or by viewing a listing of available positions on our job board. Sometimes jobs such as this aren’t generally advertised, and so placing a telephone call to the headquarters within the airport may prove to be a better choice rather than looking online. You could also contact local military bases and inquire as to whether the have aerospace engineering jobs.

A typical work week for an aerospace engineer is around 36-40 hours. A typical entry level aerospace engineer salary is around £20,000-25,000. With more experience, a typical median salary is around £28-40,000. Those with the most experience can expect to earn approximately £45-60,000.

Aircraft Mechanic Jobs

Aircraft mechanics jobs are generally employed by every airport – big or small. They are one of the most important aspects of any employment position within an airport. Aircraft mechanics ensure the planes that land are in good shape for takeoff again, and they also ensure planes that are about to take off are up to par for flying long distances as well.

They provide a level of security to all of the passengers on board any particular flight as they ensure they give the plane a thorough check up before takeoff. They check to ensure fuel has been provided to the plane, oil, and any other necessary fluids are topped off, and they also check the wings, tail, and body of the plane to ensure no damage needs to be fixed. They check the landing gear to ensure the tires will work when the plane tries to land, and they ensure the landing gear will also tuck away into the plane upon takeoff.

Airline mechanics are one of the most integral engineering jobs there are due to the fact that hundreds and thousands of people per day fly in and out of any given airport and they need to ensure the airplanes are completely safe for all of the passengers to fly in. The airport keeps airline mechanics on full time in case of an emergency. Aircraft mechanic jobs are an excellent start for future aerospace engineers.

There are special certificates and licenses as well as stipulations which are required before you can become an airline mechanic. Those include but are not limited to :

• You must be at least 18 years old
• Category A or B Certification with the UK Civil Aviation Authority
• Must pass a health screen
• Must have a HNC & HND
• Must be observant, responsible, reliable, and have good vision

As stated, there may or may not be further certification required – this could depend on the airport you are working for, and level of mechanic you are choosing to find employment in.

Aircraft mechanic jobs typically pay fairly well. Due to the fact that you’ve really got to know your trade and have prior certification, and the intricate nature of the job, you will be compensated fairly and well.

An aircraft mechanic salary is typically £19,000-22,000 per year entry level, while senior level airline mechanics are earning upwards of £60,000 per year or more.

You will likely be put through many tests before securing one of the above positions, but it can be done with drive and determination. Do not give up – remember the squeaky wheel gets the oil, so they say.

Once you secure a position in either of the above areas, you should ensure you stick with that position for a while and do the absolute best job you possibly can in maintaining a good reputation with your supervisors, boss, and superiors. They will be watching you intensely for the first few months. Give them something to be impressed with, and ensure you work hard. This will say a lot about your character, and even score you a permanent full time position. Most engineering jobs of this sort start out on a trial basis. You want to give them a reason to want to keep you.

Eventually, you may earn yourself promotions, raises, and higher rankings throughout the company as time goes on. This is why providing your employer with a good impression is so important.

Perhaps you don’t have the required credentials you need in order to obtain one of these engineering jobs. That’s okay! Today is a great day to gain the education you need so that in no time at all, you will be working in the field you dream of working in, such as one of these above. Engineering jobs require a lot of skill and perfecting that skill through a good education is so very important. Ensure the institution of learning you choose to attend is an accredited program where you will earn all of the appropriate credits you need in order to become certified in whatever area you desire. Visit our job board Airport Jobs for the best engineering jobs.
